In July 2025, Pack 662 brought back a classic scouting tradition with its first Raingutter Regatta in over six years—and it did not disappoint! Held under the shade of the eucalyptus trees at the Moose Lodge, the event offered a perfect escape from the summer sun and a great chance for Scouts to come together mid-break for some fun and friendly competition.

Boats, Brackets, and Big Smiles

Scouts received their Raingutter Regatta boat kits during the Rank Advancement Ceremony in June, giving them plenty of time to build and decorate their boats with their own personal flair. When race day arrived, 22 boats, including several from siblings, lined up to compete in a double elimination bracket.

Each race was powered the traditional way—Scouts blowing their boats down the water-filled gutter tracks, using strategy, breath control, and a lot of excitement. There were laughs, cheers, and some hilarious off-course moments, but more than anything, there was enthusiastic sportsmanship. Scouts cheered for every competitor and showed genuine encouragement throughout the day.

Awards for Speed and Style

In addition to crowning the Fastest Boat, Pack 662 celebrated the artistic talents and creativity of its Scouts with awards for:

  • Best Scout Design
  • Most Creative Design
  • Best Overall Design

Each award reflected not just effort but imagination, and the variety of designs—from sea creatures to rocket ships—made it clear that the Scouts had a blast building their creations.

A Welcome Return to Tradition

Despite being a summer event, the Raingutter Regatta saw strong attendance and plenty of pack pride. For many Scouts, it was their first time experiencing this classic Cub Scout event, and the energy, creativity, and teamwork on display ensured it won’t be the last.

The 2025 Raingutter Regatta reminded us that sometimes the simplest activities—water, boats, and a little wind—can bring out the best in our Scouts.
