Joining Cub Scouts

What’s the age range for joining Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is for boys and girls in Kindergarten to Grade 5, typically aged 6 to 10 years old. If you’re older than 10 or have finished fifth grade, you might qualify for Boy Scouting or Venturing based on your age and grade level.

What Elementary school does Pack 662 cover?

Pack 662 proudly serves the communities of San Marcos and Escondido, fostering a sense of camaraderie and adventure among its members. In San Marcos, the pack extends its reach to several elementary schools, including Richland Elementary, Knob Hill Elementary, and San Marcos Elementary. In Escondido, Pack 662 is actively involved with Rock Springs Elementary, Reidy Creek Elementary, and Lincoln Elementary.

Can my daughter become a Cub Scout?

Yes, Certainly! Girls are welcome to participate in Pack 662 Cub Scouts program. Cub Scouts is open to boys and girls in Kindergarten through Grade 5, along with their families

Are Cub Scouts the same as Boy Scouts?

No, they’re not. While both are part of the Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are distinct programs tailored to different age groups. Cub Scouting focuses on the needs of younger boys and is designed as a family-oriented program. After Cub Scouts, many scouts will bridge to San Marcos and Escondido Boy Scout Troops.

How often do Cub Scouts meet?

Cub Scouts have a Monthly Den Meeting and a Monthly Pack Meeting during the school year (September – June). These activities aim to provide regular and diverse opportunities for engagement and outdoor experiences for Scouts and their families in the San Marcos and Escondido communities. In addition, activities such as service projects, local museum visits, and hikes vary depending on the season.

Can I drop my Scout off at Den Meetings?

No, both den and pack events require parents to attend. While the focus is on individual boys during den meetings, parental involvement is crucial, and all meetings should be open to your participation. If you have concerns or specific circumstances, please discuss them with the den leader in advance to find a suitable solution.

How much does Cub Scouts Cost?

The cost of Cub Scouts can vary depending on the year, but typically there are there are BSA National & Council registration fees and Pack 662 Fees. These support the adult training, pack and den actives, and awards and advancements. Many of scouts cover their National, Council and Pack dues, through our annual Popcorn fund raiser.
